The Café, in the main foyer overlooking the sun-trap walled Garden Courtyard, is the place to go during the restaurant’s short closure this week. The Menu (from 11.30 am to 4.30 pm) offers not only cappuccinos, teas, snacks, takeaway sandwiches, homemade soup and scones plus cakes but also an eye-catching Danish Open Sandwich of oak smoked salmon and crayfish with dressed rocket, pickled cucumber and with a Marie-Rose sauce.

Grilled ciabatta with crisp Serrano ham, Dijon mustard, apple chutney and red cabbage slaw further tempts – or, if looking for a warmer lunch, pick the smoked Applewood Rarebit, flavoured cheese with blended ales, mustard and Worcestershire sauce on toasted farmhouse bread with red cabbage coleslaw.

The restaurant opens again on Tuesday 7th March firing on all cylinders.
