We write this with the sad news of the passing of Antonio Carluccio, the well-loved Italian chef, founder of Carlucci’s Restaurants, commonly known as the ‘Godfather of Italian cooking’, who sadly passed away on Wednesday.
Antonio Carluccio has been a personal friend and colleague of Marco’s since first working together at a banquet in 1993. We have fond memories of Carluccio visiting Pallant Restaurant and Café on several occasions over the past few months, signing autographs for our customers whilst enjoying a slice of lemon drizzle cake.
On Saturday 11th November for lunch and dinner we will be celebrating his life with the addition of a special dish to our menu for one day only, the firm favourite recipe Risotto alla Boscaiola – a wild forest style risotto, packed with the flavours of wild boar sausage and wild mushrooms.
Known for his wild foraging and love for mushrooms, Masterchef critic William Sitwell said in his tribute, “Every mushroom growing quietly beneath a pile of leaves in one of the secret woods that only he knew about, might shed a little tear knowing he will never pick one of them again.”
