“There once was a man from Darjeeling”
Celebrating World Poetry Day with John McGlynn
Wednesday 21st March was World Poetry Day, the day celebrates cultural expression and identity that comes in the form of poems. The focus is on honouring global poets and their works, promoting the reading, writing and teaching of poetry!
We were lucky enough to secure the talented John McGlynn to read a selection of poems from his favourite worldwide poets. The afternoon began with a delicious afternoon tea buffet – the perfect way to start any midweek afternoon!
John, fantastically read a series of poems ranging from Roald Dahl’s Television to Spike Milligan’s limericks;
There was a man from Darjeeling,
Who boarded a bus bound for Ealing,
It said on the door,
Please don’t spit on the floor,
So he stood up and spat on the ceiling.
Guests were treated to a mixture of emotion and lots of laughter was shared, the day was a great success and a true honour to our worldwide poets, past and present. Thank you to those that were able to help us celebrate such a fantastic occasion at Pallant Restaurant! It was a pleasure meeting you all and hearing your stories, please do feel free to share any feedback and comments you have from the day.
